Officials said the MoU would focus on border cooperation, particularly
against Kurdish insurgency groups. They identified the groups as the Kurdish
Workers Party and the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan, active in Iran.
On April 20, Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Abbas Mohtaj said a
security
accord between Ankara and Teheran was being completed. Mohtaj said his visit
to Ankara in mid-April was successful and an agreement was drafted
during the commission meeting.
Officials have refused to detail the MoU. In September 2007 Iraq and
Turkey agreed on joint operations to stop PKK and PJAK activities.
Iran and Turkey have also shared intelligence on Kurdish groups. The two
countries have extradited fugitives, including PKK fighters to Turkey.
