WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The Bush administration has set as a priority the
winning of Saudi energy contracts that could reap tens of billions of
dollars in revenue over the next decade.Officials said the effort includes the State Department, the Pentagon,
the Energy Department and the White House. The focus of the administration is to obtain the lion's share of the $30
billion worth of projects to explore and develop Saudi natural gas
resources. U.S. energy firms are battling their European rivals for the
contracts, expected to be issued by the end of the year.Officials said the administration has sought to avoid delays in the
Saudi project amid the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan. They said the projects
could be delayed by no more than a month amid the Saudi focus on security
concerns.
