U.S. APPROVES ROCKET DEAL FOR EGYPT

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has approved an Egyptian request for extended-range rocket artillery systems.

Pentagon officials said Egypt has requested up to 485 Extended Range Multiple Launch Rocket Systems in a $36.1 million deal. The prime contractor is Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control.

The latest deal is part of a $72.2 million firm-fixed-price contract for the extended-range system. Lockheed Martin is the sole source for the rockets.

A Pentagon announcement over the weekend said all of the work would be conducted in the United States. The contract is scheduled for completion by November 2003.
