WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has approved an Egyptian request for
extended-range rocket artillery systems.Pentagon officials said Egypt has requested up to 485 Extended Range
Multiple Launch Rocket Systems in a $36.1 million deal. The prime contractor
is Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control.The latest deal is part of a $72.2 million firm-fixed-price contract for
the extended-range system. Lockheed Martin is the sole source for the
rockets.A Pentagon announcement over the weekend said all of the work would be
conducted in the United States. The contract is scheduled for completion by
November 2003.
