JERUSALEM [MENL] -- A Palestinian insurgency cell was captured and accused
of planning to bomb the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem.Israeli police said the six-member cell was aligned with the Popular
Front for the Liberation of Palestine, whose leader was assassinated by
Israel last month. The cell was composed of Arab residents of Jerusalem
directed by PFLP leaders in Ramallah.The detainees were said to have told police that they had launched a
spate of bombings in Jerusalem over the last month. Several of them failed
because of technical difficulties.The suspects told police of plans for other bomb atttacks. They included
an attack on the U.S. Consulate in eastern Jerusalem. The PFLP had planned
to place a car bomb in front of the U.S. installation.Other attacks planned included bombings of cinemas, clinics,
kindergartens and restaurants.
