IRAN, RUSSIA SAID TO BEGIN NUKE TALKS

MOSCOW [MENL] -- Russia says it has launched talks to sell Iran an additional nuclear power reactor.

The Russian assertion, made during the current visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, said Moscow and Teheran have launched negotiations to draft a contract for a second nuclear power reactor. The assertion by Russia's state-owned Atomstroiexport company could result in a two-year contract.

But officials said the talks have ruled out Iran's quest for at least three additional nuclear facilities. The officials said President Vladimir Putin has approved the discussion of only one additional reactor.

Kozlov said the talks between Moscow and Teheran have proceeded smoothly. The official said the second reactor being requested would also be located in Bushehr.
