LONDON [MENL] -- The son of Osama Bin Laden is said to have taken over Al
Qaida, fueling speculation that the father was killed in the U.S.-led war in
Afghanistan.The London-based A-Sharq Al Awsat reported that Bin Laden's
eldest son, Saad, is the new commander of Al Qaida. The newspaper quoted
what it termed informed sources as saying that Saad took over operations
since the United States invaded Afghanistan in October. The sources said information concerning the change in leadership emerged
from interrogations of Al Qaida insurgents captured in Afghanistan over the
last few months. The report was issued as the United States was said to have
captured the personal guard of the elder Bin Laden in Afghanistan."It is noted that this information bolsters the view that Bin Laden was
killed or badly injured on the basis of the absence of his voice or
photograph since the end of the battle," the Saudi-owned newspaper said.
