U.S. EMBASSY IN LEBANON ATTACKED

NICOSIA [MENL] -- The U.S. embassy in Beirut was said to have come under a grenade attack.

Nobody was hurt in the attack on Saturday night.

Lebanese media reports said three people threw grenades toward the embassy gates in northern Beirut on late Saturday. The grenades were defused and did not explode.

A security force spotted the assailants but they escaped. Later, Lebanese security sources said the grenades were inoperable.
