ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey has offered to sell Syria weapons and defense
systems as part of their newly-expanded military cooperation.Arab diplomatic sources said the two countries are quietly discussing
the prospect of a Syrian purchase of unspecified weapons and systems. The
sources said the discussions are in an early stage.Last month, Syria and Turkey signed a military cooperation agreement
that includes training and joint exercises. The accord was signed during the
recent visit by Syrian Chief of Staff Hassan Turkmani to Ankara, the first
such visit by a Syrian military chief to Turkey.The London-based Al Hayat daily reported that the
cooperation agreement includes the technical field. The newspaper reported
that Syria has expressed interest in Turkish weapons but did not elaborate.
