GAZA CITY [MENL] -- Palestinian insurgents have launched a new offensive
against Israeli targets.Israeli and Palestinian sources said Palestinian insurgency groups have
ordered attacks on Jewish communities in the Gaza Strip as well as suicide
bombings inside the Jewish state. They said the attacks are being directed
by Islamic opposition groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.Over the weekend, Israel captured a suspected suicide bomber in the
northern West Bank. Authorities said an Islamic Jihad insurgent, outfitted
with an Israeli army uniform, entered Israel with a semi-automatic rifle and
a bomb in an effort to travel to the northern city of Afula. The insurgent, however, failed to obtain transport from the
Arab-populated Israeli city of Umm el Fahm to Afula and returned to the West
Bank, where he was captured by Israeli troops. Military sources said the
insurgent was offered 1,000 shekels [$220] to carry out a suicide attack.
The insurgent's family was offered another 1,000 Jordanian dinars [$1,400]
to ensure that the attack was completed.
