ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Kuwait and South Africa have signed a defense
cooperation accord that Pretoria hopes will translate into new arms sales.Officials said the accord calls for the exchange of high-level military
visits, information, defense expertise as well as joint training and
exercises. The agreement also calls for cooperation in peacekeeping
operations. The accord, signed on Monday in Pretoria by the defense ministers of
Kuwait and South Africa, does not call for arms sales. But officials said
Kuwait has not ruled out the purchase of South African weapons."When they get home, they will probably decide what are the defense
needs they feel they can satisfy from the South African market," South
African Defense Minister Mosiuoa Lekota said.
