CHINA, EGYPT DISCUSS MILITARY COOPERATION

CAIRO [MENL] -- China and Egypt are discussing the prospect of expanding military cooperation.

The proposal was discussed during a recent visit of a senior-level Chinese military delegation to Cairo. The delegation was led by Chinese Deputy Chief of Staff Gen. Xiong Guangkai.

Egyptian sources said the visit was part of the military dialogue between the two countries. The dialogue alternates between Beijing and Cairo.

Western defense sources said China has upgraded its military relations with Egypt over the last year. Beijing transferred its defense attache from Israel to Egypt. The attache is a brigadier general, the highest ranking Chinese officer in the Middle East.
