TURKEY WILL HELP TRAIN SYRIAN MILITARY

ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey plans to sign an accord for the training of Syria's military.

The training is included in a military cooperation between the two former rivals. The accord is scheduled to be signed in April.

Turkish military sources said the accord also includes joint exercises and training. They said the agreement opens a new chapter in relations between Ankara and Damascus.

The two countries have steadily improved security and military relations over the last two years. Earlier this year, Turkey and Syria agreed to remove land mines for their border areas and facilitate the movement of nationals.
