BUSH, PUTIN CAN'T AGREE ON IRAN'S WMD

MOSCOW [MENL] -- The presidents of Russia and the United States can't agree on Moscow's help to Iran's missile and weapons of mass destruction programs.

President George Bush has warned that Russian aid could advance Iran's nuclear weapons program. His Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, said Russia's construction of Bushehr's nuclear reactor does not comprise a proliferation issue.

"We spoke very frankly and honestly about .... a government run by radical clerics [that] doesn't get their hands on weapons of mass destruction which could be harmful to us and harmful to Russia," Bush said. "We will work closely with each other on this important issue."

Putin said the $800 million nuclear facility in Iran is no different from the reactor Washington has offered to North Korea. Putin said Iran's missile and nuclear programs have been aided by Western-based companies.
