CAIRO [MENL] -- Arab League foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss
Israel's spy satellite program, with a new report terming the Ofeq-class
facility one of the most dangerous threats to Arab security.Arab foreign ministers are expected to be given a report by the league
during their meeting, which took place last month. Arab League sources said
either the foreign ministers or a subcommittee of experts will review the
report.The report termed Israel's Ofeq-5 remote-imaging satellite one the most
dangerous threats to Arab national security. Ofeq-5 was successfully
launched in May and is orbiting the earth at an altitude of 250 kilometers.Arab League sources said the report regards the Israeli satellite as
being in the same class of threats as the purported nuclear arsenal of the
Jewish state. The report said Israel's spy satellite program is meant to
serve the nation's nuclear arsenal by designating targets in Arab states and
Iran.
