ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Kuwait continued its crackdown against Islamic
insurgents as officials asserted that they foiled a plot to launch a series
of attacks on U.S. interests in the sheikdom.Authorities have rounded up more than 60 suspects in wake of Tuesday's
shooting attack on U.S. marines. Most of the suspects have been released.Officials said the crackdown has led to a disclosure of an Islamic cell
composed of 15 people that had planned to launch at least five attacks on
Americans in the sheikdom. The cell, which contained eight Al Qaida members,
was said to have been headed by Anas Al Kandari, one of the two gunmen
killed by U.S. marines last week. The attackers were trained in Afghanistan and believed to have links
with Al Qaida, officials said. They said an e-mail message from Al Qaida was
found on the computer of Kandari.
