IRAN, UKRAINE PROCEED ON MILITARY AIR TRANSPORT

MOSCOW [MENL] -- Iran and Ukraine are advancing toward coproduction of a military air transport.

The two countries have agreed on the establishment of a joint company for the production of the AN-140 transport aircraft. The plane would be manufactured in the Iranian city of Isfahan under Ukraine supervision.

Industry executives said the prime contractor in the Ukraine is the Kharkiv aircraft plant, which is cooperating with the Iranian Aeronautics Industrial Organization. The two companies have established a joint management board for the production of the AN-140.

The agreement calls for Iran and Ukraine to manufacture a range of aircraft, the executives said. The first aircraft will be displayed by Iran over the next month.
