U.S. PLANS TO SELL REACTOR ARMOR TO ISRAEL

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States plans to sell reactor armor tiles to Israel as part of a program to produce an advanced infantry fighting vehicle for the U.S. Army.

U.S. officials said the Bush administration has approved the sale of components required for the Israeli production of advanced reactive armor for the U.S. Army's Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. The program involves the state-owned Rafael, Israel Armament Development Authority.

Rafael has been supplying reactive armor for the Bradley for about five years. The program is in cooperation with Bradley manufacturer, General Dynamics.

The Defense Department has awarded a $19.4 million contract to General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products for continuation of the Rafael partnership. The company, based in Burlington, Vt., was authorized with providing a range of reactor armor to Rafael for production of the Israeli protection system.
