HAMAS SUCCEEDS IN FIRST ROCKET ATTACK IN ISRAEL

TEL AVIV [MENL] -- For the first time, Hamas has succeeded in striking an Israeli civilian target with its Kassam short-range rocket.

Israeli military sources said a Kassam-2 rocket slammed into a house in Kibbutz Saad about five kilometers west of the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening. The sources said the rocket damaged the kitchen but did not explode.

Hamas has been firing its Kassam-1 and Kassam-2 rockets for about a year. So far, the rockets have either missed their targets or failed to achieve its designated range.

The Kassam-2 has a range of up to eight kilometers. The Kassam-1 has a range of 4.5 kilometers.
