GCC FORCE, PAC-2 SYSTEMS ARRIVE IN KUWAIT

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Kuwait is bracing to receive a Gulf Cooperation Council rapid response force as well as at least two PAC-2 missile defense batteries over the next few days.

Kuwaiti military sources said the first troops of a GCC mechanized brigade could arrive in Kuwait early next week. The sources said the brigade will consist of forces from Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

The GCC Peninsula Shield force will be comprised of air, naval and sea platforms. They include fighter-jets, attack helicopters, tanks and armored vehicles and will be deployed in northern Kuwait under command of the sheikdom's military.

"The General Staff is ready to coordinate and guard the arrival of Peninsula Shield and the deployment of its units alongside those of the Kuwaiti military, and this might take several days," Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Yusef Abdul Razik Al Mulla said.
