AMMAN [MENL] -- Jordan has launched efforts to develop a military technology
training center.The kingdom is building the Prince Faisal Information Technology Center
in the northern city of Irbid. The center will provide training to Arab
militaries in information technology required to develop, maintain and
upgrade weapons and defense systems.Jordanian officials have met with representatives from seven Arab
militaries to discuss the center. Amman was said to have sought commitments
from the militaries for training contracts over the next two years. The
center is being established by the state-owned King Abdullah Design and
Development Bureau, Yarmouk University and the Indian company Perfect.Officials have refused to disclose the cost of the center and exactly
what would be taught. They said the center hopes to train at least 50 Arab
personnel in the development and maintenance of software required for
military systems. Jordan is regarded as a leading developer of software in
the Arab world.
