IAF, ARMY SETS DIFFERENT PRIORITIES

TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel's military has been divided over requirement priorities.

The Israel Air Force has deemed the Palestinian Authority, particularly the ruling Hamas movement, the key threat. The army, however, has shifted its prime focus from the Palestinians to Hizbullah and Syria.

"It's not a disagreement, rather each service is responding to its strengths and weaknesses," a military source said.

On Tuesday, Israel Air Force commander Maj. Gen. Eliezer Shkeidy listed Hamas as the priority of his service. Following Hamas was Hizbullah, Syria, Iran and "global jihad," a reference to Al Qaida.

"All of these issues are weighty and critical," Shkeidy told an air force conference.
