QATAR SEEKS TO BUY UP TO 10% OF EADS

LONDON [MENL] -- Qatar continues efforts to purchase a major stake in one of Europe's largest defense contractors.

Qatar said has been examining the acquisition of 10 percent of the French-German defense conglomerate EADS. Officials said the emirate has been negotiating over price.

"We are discussing, but first of all we need to see the right conditions at the right price," Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jaber Al Thani said.

Hamad, chairman of the Qatar Investment Authority, has been discussing the purchase of EADS with France and company chiefs. He said in London on March 12 that Qatar wanted to study the delivery problems of the A380 passenger jet by EADS subsidiary Airbus.
