CAIRO [MENL] -- Yemen, despite an international embargo, has become a major weapons exporter to Somalia. A United Nations Security Council report said that in 2005 Yemen sent at least 5,000 personal weapons and 15,000 military uniforms as well as helicopters and rockets to the government in Mogadishu. The report said a significant amount of Yemeni weapons in Somalia also reached Al Qaida-aligned Somalian militias.
