TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel has charged an Arab citizen with spying for the
Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah.
A 29-year-old Israeli Arab has been indicted on charges of being
recruited by Hizbullah to spy on and identify potential agents in Israel.
Khaled Kashkoush was said to have been recruited during his medical studies
in Germany.
"Khaled Kashkush was asked to provide the Hizbullah handler with
information on Israel, including names of Israeli citizens studying abroad
in the aim to recruit them to Hizbullah," a government statement said. "In
addition, Khaled attempted to get a job at one of the hospitals in Israel in
order to gather information on members of the security forces or soldiers
hospitalized there."
Kashkush, arrested on July 16, was said to have received 13,000 euro
from Hizbullah. During interrogation, Kashkush said he was in contact with
Hizbullah, introduced to the Lebanese militia through a relative in Germany
in 2002. The relative, identified as Hisham Hassan, was said to head the
Hizbullah-sponsored Orphaned Children in Germany.
