U.S. Procures IED Jammers For Iraq
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The U.S. military has awarded several contracts for
systems to jam improvised explosive devices in Iraq.
The Defense Department has awarded contracts to two companies in August
2008. The companies were directed to supply systems to detect and jam
remote-controlled IEDs under the Defense Department's Joint Counter
Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare program.
In one contract, EDO Communications & Countermeasures Systems was
awarded a $187.3 million contract for the production and support of
electronic warfare systems. The contract to the Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based
company marked the latest order of the JCREW 2.1 system.
