WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Lockheed Martin, in a move said to harm U.S. national
security, has acknowledged that it relayed classified information of
advanced missile systems to the United Arab Emirates.
Officials said Lockheed Martin reached a settlement with the U.S. State
Department regarding the export of the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile
and Hellfire air-to-ground missile to the UAE Air Force. The U.S. defense
major, which has been allowed to continue arms exports, admitted that the
UAE received classified data on both weapons systems in violation of the
Arms Export Control Act.
"Lockheed has acknowledged the seriousness of its conduct and has
cooperated with the department's investigation, expressed regret for these
activities and taken steps to improve its compliance programs," the State
Department said on Aug. 8. "Lockheed has also undertaken to make amends by
paying a cash penalty, and implementing the remedial compliance actions
specified in this consent agreement."
