CAIRO [MENL] -- Algeria has been concerned that Al Qaida significantly
increased its operational presence in 2008.
Security sources said the Al Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb
offensive in August 2008 reflected the recruitment of scores of operatives.
The sources said AQIM appeared to have recruited suicide bombers, combatants
and those with inside knowledge of the military and police.
