U.S. REFUSES ISRAELI REQUEST TO FREE POLLARD

JERUSALEM [MENL] -- The United States has refused an Israeli request torelease Jonathan Pollard, sentenced to life for passing classifiedinformation to the Jewish state. Officials said the Bush administration relayed its refusal last weekduring a meeting between high-level officials from both countries. Theadministration did not explain.
