ARAFAT MAINTAINS GRIP ON SECURITY SERVICES

RAMALLAH [MENL] -- Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat has rebuffeda U.S.-inspired effort to end his control of Palestinian security services. Palestinian sources said Arafat has succeeded in maintaining totalcontrolover all of the security services, including the national police. They saidArafat hasalso blocked efforts to appoint a pro-U.S. interior minister.
