PENTAGON DEVELOPS ARABIC TRANSLATOR

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States expects to complete an upgradedtwo-way hand-held translation device in late 2004. U.S. officials said the Defense Department has accelerated developmentof the translator for troops in Iraq. The Pentagon's Defense AdvancedResearch Projects Agency has overseen the project as the military seeks toimprove contact with ordinary Iraqis.
