TURKEY MULLS M-60 UPGRADE CANCELLATION
ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey has been quietly examining the prospect of revisingor canceling itsM-60 main battle tank upgrade with Israel. Turkish industry and defense sources said the M-60 project could bedelayed or suspended if Ankara wins German approval for the sale of between250 and 350 Leopard-2A4 main battle tanks, produced by Krauss-MaffeiWegmann. They said Ankara and Bonn have entered the advanced stage ofnegotiations, and a Leopard-2 deal could be reached in early 2005 after theEuropean Union summit, which would decide whether to grant Turkey a date foraccession.
