U.S. Presses Saudis For Naval Modernization Deal

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The Bush administration has been pressing Saudi Arabia
to order a U.S. modernization of the Arab kingdom's navy.
Officials said the Defense Department has been lobbying Riyad to abandon
France as the kingdom's leading naval contractor. They said the United
States could provide much more effective platforms, combat systems and training.
