AL QAIDA SAID TO PRESSURE MEMBERS TO REMAIN

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Al Qaida was said to have used psychologicalpressure to recruit and maintain its members. Three Al Qaida detainees said they had been isolated by Al Qaidacommanders, who employed threats to keep them in the Islamic insurgencymovement. They said their recruiters and minders were clerics who sought tojustify Al Qaida operations on religious grounds.
