Israel Researches Land-Based Aegis

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Israel has been developing a land-based variant of an
advanced U.S. missile defense system.
Industry sources said Israel's Defense Ministry has overseen efforts to
develop a land-based variant of the Aegis. They said Israel was focusing on
converting the SM-3 interceptor for launch from land rather than merely sea
platforms. SM-3 has been produced by the U.S. firm Raytheon.
