BAGDHAD [MENL] -- Syria has reduced its military presence along the border
with Iraq.
Iraqi security sources said the regime of President Bashar Assad ordered
a reduction in the Syrian troop presence in wake of a U.S. air strike in
Syria. The Oct. 26 helicopter attack was said to have killed at least eight
people in the Syrian border town of Abu Kamal.
"The Syrians want to reduce the vulnerability of their troops and
prevent an escalation," an Iraqi source said.
