LONDON [MENL] -- The European Commission has determined that Turkey failed
to reduce the military's authority over the government.
The EC said in its annual report that the government of Turkish Prime
Minister Recep Erdogan has failed to restrain the powerful military. The
report, released on Nov. 5, said the military routinely conducts
counter-insurgency operations without government approval and retains
control over defense spending.
