NICOSIA [MENL] -- Saudi Arabia has been pouring millions of dollars to
bolster Sunni militias in Lebanon.
Lebanese sources said Saudi princes have relayed more than $10 million
to Sunni militias in their silent war against the Iranian-sponsored
Hizbullah. The sources said funding began in late 2007 and significantly
increased in mid-2008.
"The Saudis are intent to stop an Iranian takeover of Lebanon, and that
means forming a counter-balance to Hizbullah," a Lebanese source said.
The sources said Riyad has financed a network of Sunni clerics around
Tripoli to spread Wahabi doctrine, similar to that employed by Al Qaida.
