WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The U.S. intelligence community has assessed that Iran
lowered its profile in neighboring Iraq.
Officials said U.S. military intelligence has determined that Iran was
reducing its activities ahead of the administration of President-elect
Barack Obama. They said the Teheran regime wanted to encourage the Obama
administration to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq in 2009.
"Iran believes that the United States will get out of Iraq quickly if
allowed to," an official said. "And, Teheran appears to have made a decision
not stand in the way."
