CAIRO [MENL] -- Egypt has assessed that the opposition Muslim Brotherhood
formed an alliance with the Hamas regime in the neighboring Gaza Strip.
Security sources said the Brotherhood leadership in Cairo was in steady
contact with Hamas headquarters in Damascus, Syria as well as the Gaza
Strip. The sources said Hamas and the Brotherhood were cooperating in the
relay of funds and weapons to the Gaza Strip.
"They have become so close that sometimes it is not clear where the
Brotherhood's interests end and Hamas interests begin," a security source
said. "One thing they do share in common is sworn opposition to Egypt."
The sources said the Brotherhood helped form Hamas cells in Egypt in
2008. They said Hamas cells emerged in both the Sinai Peninsula as well as
in cities in the African mainland.
