Egypt Sees Israel As Leading Threat

LONDON [MENL] -- More than 32 years after they signed a peace treaty, Egypt
still regards Israel as the leading regional threat.
U.S. diplomatic cables reported tense meetings with Egyptian defense
officials in which Israel was identified as the leading threat to Cairo. The
meetings were part of a failed U.S. effort to modernize the Egyptian
military so it could face a range of non-conventional threats.
