Cypriot Pres. Blamed For Naval Blast
NICOSIA [MENL] -- The president of the Republic of Cyprus, under pressure
from Iran and Syria, has been blamed for an explosion at a naval base that
killed 13 people.
A commission of inquiry determined that President Demetris Christofias
was responsible for an explosion of a munitions warehouse at the Mari naval
base in July 2011. In a 650-page report, the panel said Christofias, warned
by Iran and Syria not to allow international inspections, failed to secure
the large number of captured Iranian-origin munitions stored 150 meters
from the island's largest power station.
