Syria Recruits Italians Against Rebels

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Syrian intelligence has been recruiting European Union
technicians to help monitor the revolt against President Bashar Assad.
Officials said the State Department has been investigating an Italian
company contracted to help Syrian intelligence monitor the opposition. The
company, identified as Area SpA, based near Milan, was said to have sent
scores of technicians to monitor Syrian telecommunications as part of a
contract estimated at nearly $18 million.
