Israel Suspends Armor Production
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel's military, strapped by new budget cuts, has
ordered a halt to the production of main battle tanks and armored personnel
carriers.
Military sources said Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz has ordered
the suspension of plans to produce Israeli-origin armored vehicles. They
identified them as the Merkava Mk-4 MBT and the Namer APC, both of which
involved U.S. contractors.
