LONDON [MENL] -- Iraq has been discussing the procurement of an advanced air
trainer from South Korea.
Officials said the Iraqi Defense Ministry and air force have been
examining South Korea's T-50 jet. The T-50, offered to the United Arab
Emirates, has been designed as an air trainer or light attack fighter.
"The T-50 proved to us that South Korea has modern technology of an
international standard," Iraqi Defense Minister Abdul Qader Al Obedi said.
Al Obeidi, who visited South Korea in mid-January, examined the T-50
Golden Eagle during his tour of Korean Aerospace Industries. KAI and
Lockheed Martin designed the T-50 for the South Korean military as well as
for export.
