U.S. Accelerates Humvee Program For Iraq

BAGHDAD [MENL] -- The U.S. military has accelerated a program to refurbish
and transfer combat vehicles to Iraq.
Officials said the U.S.-led coalition has intensified efforts to deliver
on schedule the Humvee fleet to the Iraq Army and security forces. Under an
agreement, the U.S. Army and Air Force were committed to hand over 8,500
Humvee vehicles to Baghdad by July 2009.
So far, the U.S. military has delivered more than 3,000 armored Humvees.
Officials said the delivery rate has averaged 400 Humvees per month.
