WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States, preparing to reduce its military
campaign in Iraq, has been directing assets away from neighboring Kuwait.
Officials said the Defense Department has revised plans to deploy
military maintenance and related assets in Kuwait. They said the assets
would be sent to Afghanistan and support the NATO mission against Al Qaida.
"We are finding that we need less non-combat assets in Iraq as the
violence there subsides and the Iraqi government gains capacity," an
official said.
