IAI Sends AEW Platforms To India
LONDON [MENL] -- Israel has sent the first of three airborne early-warning
aircraft to India.
The state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries has delivered the first
Russian-origin Il-76 aircraft fitted with an Israeli-origin Phalcon airborne
warning and control system. The Il-76 arrived in India on Jan. 11 as part of
a $1.1 billion deal with IAI.
Indian sources said the Israeli AEW platform arrived at Agra Air Force
base about two months ahead of schedule. They said New Dehli urged IAI to
accelerate delivery of the aircraft in wake of the Al Qaida-aligned attack
on Mumbai in November 2008.
