Turkey Spares Defense In Cuts

ANKARA [MENL] -- The government has spared the military in budget cuts
ordered for 2009.
Officials said parliament approved a $169 billion state budget for 2009.
They said the budget did not include cuts in defense or security.
"Most of the ministries were ordered to cut their budgets, but this did
not include the Defense Ministry," an official said.
