Iran Threatens GCC Over Security Measures
NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran has threatened to retaliate against its Gulf Arab
neighbors regarding border security measures.
Officials said the regime of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned it
would retaliate for Gulf Cooperation Council security measures that
hamper the movement of Iranian nationals. They said Teheran was ready to
block the entry of GCC nationals as well as divert trade to other countries.
The brunt of Iran's threats has been directed toward the United Arab
Emirates. In 2008, the UAE has ordered authorities to fingerprint Iranian
arrivals, including at airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Dubai contains a
large Iranian expatriate community.
