Libyan-Led Militia Emerges In Syria
NICOSIA [MENL] -- A Libya-led militia linked to Al Qaida has emerged as a
powerful force in the Sunni revolt against Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The militia, called Liwa Al Umma, or Banner of the Nation, has been
deemed a major rebel force near the Syrian border with Turkey. Rebel sources
said Liwa marked the expansion of Al Qaida-aligned forces that were
controlling eastern and northern Syria.
